More news graphics fail: CNN gets Queensland a bit too far south!
4022011
Following on from my Fox News #megafail where they misplaced Egypt on a map, CNN were not to be outdone.
Here’s their effort at #graphicsfail.
Well done, guys! I had no idea Queensland was that far south.
To be fair, they have Queenstown, Tasmania marked as Queensland which is a little more understandable. If I typed something of the US into google maps and it gave me something wrong, I wouldn’t really know the difference either.
Well, QueensTOWN and QueensLAND are very different. Plus, one is a state – surely something even Americans understand?
Even being generous (as you are) surely common sense would tell whoever labelled the map that it must have been wrong simply because QueensTOWN is obviously thousands of miles from the other affected areas marked on the map? Oh but I’m assuming they had any sense at all. My mistake!
I’m a full blooded American (and Aussophile) and am appalled at the error! Not surprising though; many Americans immediatly think “Sound of Music” when I mention Australia.

Of course I’m not putting anything on TV so…

This proves that not only are the ‘Seppos rubbish at geography, they can’t even use Google Maps properly! How utterly embarassing!
Indeed!
A translation for my non- Aussie readers: “seppos” is slang for Americans, in Australian rhyming slang.
It goes like this: Septic Tank–>Yank, hence seppos (short for septic tank) = Americans!
And a translation for Aussie readers. Who the hell says that?
Not my part of Australia.
You’ve never heard of Americans referred to as “septics”? My dad used to call them that all the time. Must be a generational thing…
Queenstown has only a bit more than 0.1% of Queenslands population. So that’s a fairly big error.
But it (Queenstown) certainly has the best home field advantage for footy.
Not to mention is the worlds 6th largest sub-division and bigger than Alaska and Texas combined….
This is an outrage! I was quaffing Red Bull when I saw this, and immediately spit it out on my TV and children and all of my walls. Horrible!
I live in Tasmania. This is an UNFORGIVABLE offense. I will hunt these people down. Then, when I find them, I will make them pay . They will pay me .
