Fox News gets Eggman on its face!

17 03 2011

I’ve written before about some of the cock ups of the US news networks when it comes to affairs outside their shores. Recent notable examples were when CNN thought Townsville was the capital of Queensland (its Brisbane), after they realised that Queensland wasn’t actually in Tasmania.

And Fox News once thought that Egypt was actually where Iraq should be.

With the score 2-1 to CNN, Fox News was not to be outdone on the #graphicsfail front. They recently came out with this little gem, a monumental Fox News cockup that has levelled the score 2-all.

This graphic is supposed to show the nuclear power plants in Japan – except that it doesn’t. Look very carefully and you’ll see one called “Shibuyaeggman”:

Now, I’ve been to Japan and have actually lived there (a total of about three years between the 1980′s and 90′s). I’ve travelled to Tokyo more times that I care to remember, and I’ve been to the trendy Shibuya district in the city’s south western quarter. In fact, here’s a shot of my hubby Andy standing at the famous “Shibuya Scramble Crossing” outside the mainline station:

I never actually saw a nuclear power plant in Shibuya, or anywhere near Tokyo for that matter. So what could Fox actually be referring to?

As it turns out, Shibuyaeggman is actually a nightclub.

Not a nuclear power plant.

The website for the club is HERE.

How on earth they made this cock-up is simply beyond me. I suspect it was a joke that slipped through, but with Fox you can never be sure.

But seriously, guys, you don’t need to understand Japanese to be a LITTLE suspect about the name. ShibuyaEGGMAN? Come on. Seriously?

I await the usual flaming from the rabid right-wing US nutters who for some reason seem to read this blog telling me that I must have made this up, it’s all a liberal conspiracy, and Fox News can do no wrong.

You can read the story as reported on Business Insider HERE. Make up your own mind.

If you have one, that is.

Julian Assange – rapist, or homosexual? You decide…

25 02 2011

I’m not normally one to post stuff like this, but I have to say I always thought that Julian Assange reminded me of someone. Now I know who!

Did Assange used to work in a certain well-known department store, where his sexual proclivities were also under question? I think we should be told!

So: which one can say “I’m free!” ?

SPOT THE DIFFERENCE!

Another US news network #geographyfail: now CNN says Townsville is the capital of Queensland!

5 02 2011

We all know now that Fox news can’t find Egypt on a map (click here to see that doosie!) but it seems that CNN has outdone their earlier effort to beat Fox as the “dumbest US News Network”.

Not content with putting Queensland where Tasmania ought to be (click HERE for that post), CNN just seems to get even more confused – or lazy – about foreign geography.

This time, no one can accuse me (or anyone else) of “doctoring” any map using Photoshop to paint US news networks as downright ignorant and just plain stupid. This one is exactly as published – on CNN!

In an article HERE, CNN says:

“Yasi is expected hit overnight Wednesday, according to The Australian, and will come ashore between Innisfail and Proserpine, directly hitting Queensland’s capital, Townsville.”

Come again?  Last time I looked, the capital of Queensland was Brisbane!

Dumb US news network score so far:  Fox 1 – CNN 2

More news graphics fail: CNN gets Queensland a bit too far south!

4 02 2011

Following on from my Fox News #megafail where they misplaced Egypt on a map, CNN were not to be outdone.
Here’s their effort at #graphicsfail.
Well done, guys! I had no idea Queensland was that far south.

Protest the Pope: London

18 09 2010

I’m not normally one to take to the streets, but today was an exception.

Today saw the Pope giving a vigil in Hyde Park; today was also the day those of us who have been called “militant atheists” – along with discontent catholics and lots of others too – took the streets of London. We marched from Hyde Park corner to Whitehall to show our disapproval of the state visit of this man who claims that condoms do not prevent HIV and that secularism and tolerance is causing the destruction of the UK.

There were speeches by Geoffrey Robinson, QC, the human rights campaigner Peter Tatchell, and the man who has been dubbed “Darwin’s Rottweiler” and author of “The God Delusion”, Richard Dawkins, amongst others.

I’ve got a few pictures up on Flickr, so please take a look by clicking on the pic below.

It is one of my favourites of the day. This guy appeared in a topless car with a megaphone and three “nuns” (two of whom were men) and started doing what can only be described as a very “Unholy Rap” about the Pope.

Priceless.

Dumb, dumber…and then there’s Tory…

27 03 2010

Thanks to Richard Osley (via Arthur Graves) for this little gem.

It’s a photo of the Tory PPC for Hamstead and Kilburn, Chris Philp, out campaigning with…well, a few of Cameron’s stiffs, for sale to the highest bidder perhaps?

There isn’t really anything more to say about this pic, other than wonder – was the photographer a Labour supporter?

Holy Water, Batman!!

17 02 2010

I was out doing some LibDem deliveries in my local area today, and I came across this rather amusing sign on a house attached to a church.

And yes, it IS real!

I did wonder, though: what happens if there is a “Holy Water Emergency” outside of business hours?

Who does one call?

Where does one go?

Can I just pop over to Sainsbury’s opposite the church after 5pm for my Holy Water supplies?

(I do suspect, thought, that “Holy Water” may be a euphemism for something else in use at the hostel attached to the church).

Note to Lucifer: God only works business hours in Junction Ward!
